The Barefoot Beekeeper

Check out this website on bee keeping, it offers a great way for the average family to keep bees without great expense and hassle. Consider here is a great way to provide a valuable food storage item from your own back yard. Just consider you have honey and wax when the cost of a pound of sugar goes to $10.00. Honey could just be the commodity that saves your family and provides you with a good barter item as well. The Barefoot Beekeeper

If you live in a "Food Desert" it's your own *^@%# fault!

Food desert? I live in a desert but not a food desert. Supposedly a neighborhood where good nutrition can not be found in the stores, is a food desert, right? Well do you have at least 4 square feet of ground where you can plant a garden? I personally use tractor tires and call it gardening in the round, L.O.L. The tires will likely last longer than I will and come in a variety of sizes and depths.

It's called Square Foot Gardening (SFG) you can learn all you need to know on their foundation website http://www.squarefootgardening.com/ This is a high intensity, easy, low labor way to grow your own food like our ancestors have been doing for years. Maybe your to young to remember the Victory Gardens from the years of the world wars. Gardening has changed, new methods yeald much higher quantities and qualities of food from small areas of garden. The author just published a new improved book, I picked a copy up at the local public library to review. It's well worth the $20.00 asking price.

But you live in an apartment you say? Ok so go vertical check out an even newer idea for growing your own Window Farming http://www.windowfarms.org/ . So if your thinking it might be a good idea to take your savings out of stocks and bonds and 401Ks consider how hard it might be for you to eat those when the store shelves are empty. The first place I'll put my money is into seeds, seeds that will grow food my family can eat.

I guarantee if I have extra food and someone with silver or gold is hungry I'd be willing to trade food for silver and we'll both walk away happier. While serving on my mission in Winfield Louisiana much of the town became the property of the local grocer as he would trade food for what ever people had, property, labor, etc. Is there work involved? Yes. will it be worth it? Yes. Can you do it? Yes. When should you start? Now.

If you would like more info on this topic feel free to post your feedback.

God bless you. Pray for our countries sovereignty, security, freedom, and prosperity. Pray for those who are standing up for our God given Constitutional Government and do all you can to vote people in in two weeks that will safeguard that Constitution. Our fathers fought for the freedom's we enjoy, the least we can do is seek out those that will preserve it as it will take blood in the streets to restore our freedoms once lost.

The Time Has Come, Are You a Patriot?

"If ever a time should come, when vain and aspiring men shall possess the highest seats in government, our Country will stand in need of its experienced patriots to prevent its ruin.-" Samuel Adams, 1776

It's all about Faith in God, the Family, and Love for our Fellow Man.

In order to preserve our rights and freedoms it is necessary that we: Restore our Faith in God, Preserve our Families, and Love our Fellow Man.

Restore our Faith in God, we must return to church. Active Observance and dedication to our Faith in God is a must. This Country was created, founded under God, God is our Foundation. If we slip off this foundation the nation and all it's people will fall with out it. This land has been sanctified for those who serve God. If we will not serve him, we will not be allowed to keep this land but be swept off like the Jaredites and Nephites before us.

How do we serve God? By serving our fellow man, do we do that by killing? Aborting Babies? Stealing from the rich to give to the poor? By forcing our fellow man to do what a few elites dictate as being what is good for us? I think not.

Preserve your families, We must not follow the wicked ways of the media which would have all our wives acting like TV hoers on Sex in the whatever/wherever. If you are watching this trash you are filling your soul with garbage and demonstrating your acceptance of this behavior. Showing your children that you approve as you laugh and return to the troth week after week. You are numbing your spirit till you can not hear his promptings and are being lead down the road to the captivity of the Devil.

Everywhere you look these days there's porn, or some other vice that the media wants you to indulge in, then end result of which is the destruction of the family. The elites that would have you live this way want to ensnare you, trap you, and destroy you.

We must follow the commandments of God to live righteous moral lives because they are the guidelines given us for our happiness. Living the Commandments breaths joy and freedom into your life as truth sets you free. Wickedness may give momentary pleasure but can never bring lasting happiness and joy.

Love our Fellow Man, not as NAMBOLA (as the world would have it) does but as God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that we might be forgiven for our sins and healed of our pains. We must love one another, let go of class envy or is it hatred, that is the devil's way, Love is God's way in all things. The Progressives in Politics and Media seek to divide us along every possible demographic line, rich vs. poor, Christian vs. Islamic, the health-care haves vs. the have nots. We must all learn to let go of jealousies and love everyone regardless of what they do or don't have, are or are not, can or can not. We are all children of God who is no respecter of persons, He loves all his children equally and has commanded us all to do the same.

I heard it said that "We are all like organisms on the face of the this earth and an organism at war with it's self will destroy it's self." We are demonstrating AIDS at both the micro and macro levels. AIDS is when our cells attack  themselves, the wars we see going on serve only one purpose which is to feed the War making industrial complex. The current rules of engagement in Afghanistan are killing our troops in a war going no where. See: The rules murdering our troops - NYPOST.com Remember all the promises that our troops where coming home, looks like the Obama shell game worked there too. I don't think any of our troops call Afghanistan home.

Don't imagine for a second that I do not support our troops, I know many of our troops personally love, care for, and directly support their families in active service. I don't just talk about it I do it. I also pray for them and their families, I pray that the wicked men that perpetrate these wars will repent. I pray that they may come home and protect us at our borders where they could actually do some good, I believe Texas and Arizona could really use there help to name just a few.

God bless and keep you I pray.

Follow the Prophet, Follow the Prophet, Follow the Prophet he knows the Way!

You need to watch every movie on this Playlist! Have your whole family gather around and watch these movies together and then discuss what you need to do to prepare.

I would suggest that you get together with others in your community that are tired of the riding the railroad car we have all been on thanks to the conspiritors that have destroyed two nations on this continent before us (namely the Jaredites and Nephites).

Think I'm smoking something? Look into the Fabian Society (http://www.fabians.org.uk/). Their logo is a wolf in sheeps clothing, note all the red paint used on their website, it's symbolic of course. Are you sheep? We've all been getting sheered for most of our lives. The only path out of this mess is to turn to God. Repent and Pray Your life does depend on it, the security of your family depends on it. I have one desire in all this to teach my children because if we do not beat this it will be up to our children to beat this.

Do not allow yourself to get chipped, do not get on a bus/train to go to a FEMA camp. Do PRAY and forgive those who would dispitefully use you as did Christ and Love one another as Christ did only by supporting each other and not falling into their traps of being divided by differences and turned against each other can we survive this. We must disconnect from the system and live in LOVE as God wants us to. No more war, it's all a ruse anyway. It's just the Satin's machine that lives off the good to feed those of evil intent.

Pray if you want to!

Folks, this is the year that we RE-TAKE AMERICA & CANADA . . .

My opinion closely follows that of Andy Rooney here, I would however suggest we go beyond this and actively pray en-mass with focused and specific purpose.
Why? because PRAYER WORKS!
And what's more is it works more when more pray together with the same purpose in mind while praying. More on this later in the next post, for now read this.
We can't give up on this issue . . .

Andy Rooney says:

I don't believe in Santa Claus, but I'm not going to sue somebody for singing a Ho-Ho-Ho song in December.

I don't agree with Darwin, but I didn't go out and hire a lawyer when my high school teacher taught his Theory of Evolution.

Life, liberty or your pursuit of happiness will not be endangered because someone says a 30-second prayer before a football game.

So what's the big deal?  It's not like somebody is up there reading the entire Book of Acts.

They're just talking to a God they believe in and asking him to grant safety to the players on the field and the fans
going home from the game.

But it's a Christian prayer,  some will argue.
Yes, and this is the United States of America and Canada ,countries founded on Christian principles.

According to our very own phone book, Christian churches outnumber all others better than 200-to-1.  So what would you expect - - somebody chanting Hare Krishna?

If I went to a football game in Jerusalem,

I would expect to hear a Jewish prayer
If I went to a soccer game in Baghdad,
I would expect to hear a Muslim prayer.
If I went to a ping pong match in China,
I would expect to hear someone pray to Buddha.

And I wouldn't be offended. It wouldn't bother me one bit.

But what about the atheists? is another argument.
What about them? Nobody is asking them to be baptized.
We're not going to pass the collection plate. Just humor us for 30 seconds.

If that's asking too much, bring a Walkman or a pair of ear plugs.  Go to the bathroom. Visit the concession stand. Call your lawyer!
Unfortunately, one or two will make that call. One or two will tell thousands what they can and cannot do. I don't think a short prayer at a football game is going to shake the world's foundations.

Christians are just sick and tired of turning the other cheek while
our courts strip us of all our rights. Our parents and grandparents taught us to pray before eating, to pray before we go to sleep. Our Bible tells us to pray without ceasing. Now a handful of people and their lawyers are telling us to cease praying.

God, help us.

The silent majority has been silent too long.

It's time we tell that one or two who scream loud enough to be heard that the vast majority doesn't care what they want.

It is time that the majority rules!

It's time we tell them, "You don't have to pray; you don't have to say the Pledge of Allegiance; you don't have to believe in God or attend services that honor Him. That is your right, and we will honor your right; but by golly, you are no longer going to take our rights away.

We are fighting back, and we WILL WIN!"
God bless us one and all...Especially those who denounce Him, God bless America and Canada, despite all our faults, We are still the greatest nations of all.

God bless our service men who are fighting to protect our right to pray and worship God.  Let's make 2010 the year the silent majority is heard and we put God back as the foundation of our families and institutions. And our military forces come home from all the wars.

Keep looking up!!

Family Tent Camping

Camping with your family (some large) can be a challenge. As a boy scout I did some camping, can't say I really enjoyed it. Never really liked the small, cramped (claustrophobic) space inside a 2-4 man tent. Waking up with condensation inches from your nose which would shake off onto your back wet as you tried to climb out into the cool morning air. No bathroom handy with out a trek to the out house or latrine if you'd remembered to dig one.

I took my family camping at the end of this last summer, a first for most of them. The state park out house was nearby, running water close at hand, BBQ stand next to the permanent picnic table. We had two 4 man tents between the eight of us. We succeeded at having a good time, discovered things we needed and didn't bring, and everyone wanted to go camping again when it was all over. In fact we extended our one night trip into a two night trip, fortunately we had prepared just enough ahead to stretch out our stay.

One of the things I very much would have liked to have had is a much better tent accommodation. My first requirement for the tent I will buy is that it be sound and secure in just about any climate condition. Wind can be especially challenging for tents. Most tents are built like tumble weeds that catch the wind and take flight across an open field with little provocation.

Roomy is the next biggest issue for me. With our family in order to have enough space for everyone it takes a lot of tent floor space. I have never liked not being able to stand vertically at some point in the tent ether and I'm not exactly a giant. I have looked at tents made by http://www.springbar.com/ out of Utah for a long time. I have always heard good things about them from folks I knew that owned them.

To get one large enough for my family would require a custom build or multiple tents. Both options are pricey and I'm not excited about setting up several tents upon arrival at the camp site. I recently came across a relatively new option Kifaru Tipis http://www.kifaru.net/. Their tents are extremely stable in wind (check out their YouTube videos) and come in sizes large enough for my clan. Their 24 man model has lots of room for everything including the firewood should it be raining outside. The lack of a floor in the tent means there's no having to set it up and clean it once you get home with it, and of course nothing to wear out. http://www.kifaru.net/tipi24man.html

It seems to me that while this is not a cheep tent it is a lot less than a motor home or trailer and much more flexible too. Even their two man tent is tall enough to stand upright in and has room for a small wood stove option (very useful for winter camping). If you know of other or better options I'd love to see what you have to suggest.

Hope this proves informative and useful to you.

Best regards,

Ralph.

Fight the Flu with Vitamin D
Did you know that a recent study at the Japan School of Medicine showed that children taking 1200 IU of vitamin D daily were 30% less likely to contract influenza as children who were given H1N1 flu vaccine (1)? Vitamin D not only helps boost your immune system but also helps maintain optimum bone density, blood pressure and blood sugar levels.

Regularly exposing your skin to natural sunlight is arguably the best way to maintain optimal levels of vitamin D. But according to researchers from the Arizona Cancer Center (ACC), not everyone gets enough vitamin D from the sun, which means they may need to supplement in order to maintain optimal levels.

Some studies have suggested that seventy-five percent of people are actually below the target levels. Ask the Doctors of Stork Spinal Care if vitamin D supplementation is right for you.

Remember: There is no cold and flu season with a healthy nervous and immune system.

A Daily Dose of Chocolate

may reduce the risk of hypertension and diabetes.A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that eating 3.5 ounces of anti-oxidant dark chocolate daily for 15 days reduced insulin resistance and lowered systolic blood pressure significantly in healthy patients. White chocolate offered no benefit; milk chocolate was not tested. All chocolate is high in calories (about 150 per ounce), so opt for dark in limited amounts.

Wise Preparedness may begin with Wise Food Storage

Food Storage Made Easy

The Problem: How to Feed Your Family During an Emergency Evacuation

So here's the situation, you are awakened in the middle of the night, sirons are blairing and bull horns are warning you to evacuate your home because of some disaster. If it's not safe to stay in your home you have to grab a few basics with only minutes to get away what are you going to do? You need shelter, food, clothing, and maybe some medications. Really Emergencys can take many shapes, sizes, and forms. Some emergencys are personal, a good friend of mine fell off his horse a few days ago, no work = no income = no food. How long can you live off of what is in your pantry?

The Solution: Wise Foods Food Storage Products

Yes, I'll say it up front, I sell Wise Foods products, so if you decide to buy some please email me so I can help you figure out what will best meet your needs.
That said, Wise Foods has put together a excellent product (the reason I buy/sell it.) Profesionally prepared meals are freeze dried, vacuume packed as 4 meals per bag, and packaged in light easy to carry buckets which contain a complement of different meals for variety. These meals can be prepared simply by pooring a portion or all the content of the bag into a pot of hot or cold water measured according to the size of the portion. If your situation is dier and you don't have hot water available it will take longer for the food to re-constitute but cold water will do the job in time. Personally I like to use a small colman duel fuel stove to heat up my water then it only takes about 10 minutes for the meal to be ready.

The product is extreemly lite and will last 25 years without rotation concerns. Should your storage space be limited a years supply for a family of 4 fits in about the same space as a clothing washer and dryer. Because of the buckets you could easily have your children grab several buckets as you run out to the car. You would have great peace of mind knowing that you will be able to feed your family until some form of relief becomes available (think katrina) it could take days or weeks before aid arives. It is wise to be prepared to take care of yourself no matter what the emergency.

I would not suggest that this is all you would need in a long term emergency however, but I will cover that topic in another post. Suffice it to say as the father of a large family in an emergency I want to know that I'll have a way to feed a bunch of hungry kids in an emergency situation, NOTHING I can think of would make a bad situation worse than having to worry about how to feed your family in a time of great stress, or disaster. You can find Wise Foods at: WiseFoodStorage.com please call me to place your order 435.272.6835 as it's important to get help to evaluate your needs. They have many packages and plans to meet your needs, I can help with that.

Composting Toilets - for when nature calls and the well is dry/not working

Going Poop When The Well Goes Dry

The Problem: No Water in the Toilet

We live out side of town just far enough that we have a well for our water and septic tank for our black water (hope to separate out our gray water someday, it's a tricky retrofit.) That being said there are those times when the well has had problems of one sort or another (power outages, clogged pipe, etc.) when that happens flushing a toilet becomes a problem. Our family consists of 2 males and 7 females (currently) so when water flow fails and the plumbers or well repair guys are not readily available we rapidly have a serious problem. The last thing we want to have to do is use all our stored fresh water for flushing our toilets 3 gallons at a time.

The Solution: Composting Toilets

Composting toilets abound the world over, us Americans are just so civilized that they are not as commonly familiar to us. If you are a camper you may have heard of the "
Luggable Loo" I purchased one of these some years back and used some orange chemical which did a great job of keeping the whole thing quite odder free. There are many videos on YouTube you can search up on the topic of Humanure and Composting Toilets. These are a great solution for camping, off grid living, or emergency's. The time of our pioneer for fathers that could just step off the trail and go behind a bush when nature called are long gone. An open pond is not exactly a desirable yard feature in today's real estate market.

Mind you your system can get as elaborate and expensive as you like, there are many systems out there for you to chose from. you can use that Google search on this page to find: composting toilets. My thinking is keep it simple. I have a
Luggable Loo for camping which could easily be brought into the house in case of an emergency then flush it's contents when the water begins to flow again, or taken on a camping trip, if there was a need to evacuate our home for an extended period of time (think emergency here, not just camping) we could have our needs taken care of very effectively for quite some time.

I especially like this fellows concept called the Lovable Loo a good bit sturdier, durable, and more comfortable than the simple luggable type. I looks simple enough that someone with some basic wood working tools and skills could build one in an afternoon and set it in a back yard shed for when the need arises.

How It Works: The Basics of Human Waste Composting

These are just the basics,  all that are required of course is a bucket and sawdust. Most folks are going to want to move a couple steps beyond this with a larger bucket/barrel, some sort of a privacy structure (i.e. out house), you can even get a
Privacy Shelter
used for camp showers and toileting. (See images of Composting Toilets) so what you do is a use the loo, then sprinkal a little saw dust over the top of what's now in the bottom of your bucket. Once you have filled your bucket to a point your comfortable with you add a little good old garden compost to the bucket and cap it, set it aside for about a year or so while the contents continue the composting process. When it's all done add your wonderful oderless compost to your flower beds. I'll show you mine once I've built it. Hope this bit of info proves useful to you.
